  My Photo Gallery

Welcome to my Photo Gallery. Photos tell a story of who we are, where have we been. In this section of my website are photos taken over the years by family members as well as myself.

Photography has been around for a very long time. The first photograph was taken in 1826 by the French inventor Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. Unfortunately it was accidentally destroyed soon after it was taken.

Amphitype is a photograph that creates a positive image on a sheet of glass using the wet plate collodion process. In the United States, Ambrotypes first came into use in the early 1850s to the 1890s. The wet plate collodion process was invented just a few years before that by Frederick Scott Archer, but Ambrotypes used the plate image as a positive, instead of a negative. In 1854, James Ambrose Cutting of Boston took out several patents relating to the process and may be responsible for coining the term "Ambrotype".

Tintype, also Melainotype and ferrotype, is a photograph made by creating a direct positive on a sheet of iron metal that is blackened by painting, lacquering or enamelling and is used as a support for a collodion photographic emulsion. This process was invented in 1852 replacing the glass plate of the original process with a thin piece of black-enameled, or japanned, iron. The new materials reduced costs considerably; and the image, in gelatin-silver emulsion on the varnished surface, has proven to be very durable. Like that of the glass Ambrotype. This type of Photography flurished well into the 1930s.

A lot of changes have occurred in Photography through the decades to today's modern digital photos.
